Turkish Onyx
Translucent banded stones for backlit panels, bar fronts and feature surfaces.
Onyx is chosen for translucency and pattern. It is fragile and usually reinforced, so selection and fabrication are closely linked.
Technical considerations
- Slabs are backlit during selection to check translucency.
- Panels are numbered for pattern continuity.
- Glass or fibreglass backing is specified with the lighting design.
- Not suited to high-wear horizontal surfaces.

Common questions about onyx
- How is onyx prepared for backlighting?
- Slabs are reinforced, usually with glass or fibreglass backing, and checked on a light table during selection. Panels are numbered so the pattern runs continuously once installed.
- Where should onyx not be used?
- Onyx is soft and brittle, so it is not recommended for floors or heavily used worktops. It is best for walls, bar fronts, feature panels and furniture details.
