Materials
Turkish Marble
From classic white marbles to dramatic veined stones, selected according to application, fabrication requirements and project aesthetic.
Turkey produces a wide range of marbles, from bright whites and softly veined greys to warm beiges, violet-veined and dark brown stones. The right choice depends as much on slab size, veining and fabrication as on colour.

Technical considerations
- Vein direction and bookmatching must be planned on the slab layout before cutting.
- Calcitic marbles etch with acids; finish and sealing are chosen for the application.
- Resin and mesh backing on some stones is checked during slab inspection.
- Large pieces need slab sizes confirmed early, before design is fixed.
Technical information indicative
| Property | Typical range | Test |
|---|---|---|
| Density | 2.60 – 2.75 g/cm³ | EN 1936 |
| Water absorption | 0.10 – 0.30 % | EN 13755 |
| Flexural strength | 8 – 15 MPa | EN 12372 |
Values vary by quarry and block. Lot-specific test reports are requested from the supplier before approval.
Common questions about marble
- What should be specified when ordering Turkish marble?
- Name the stone and the approved sample, then thickness, finish, slab or tile size, and any bookmatch or vein-direction requirement. For vanity and kitchen tops, include the shop drawings so slab size can be checked against the largest piece.
- Can Turkish white marble be bookmatched?
- Yes, when consecutive slabs are cut from the same block. Slabs are numbered in sequence at the factory, and the bookmatch layout is agreed on photographs before anything is cut.
- Is polished marble suitable for kitchen tops?
- It can be used, but calcitic marble etches with acids such as lemon juice and vinegar. A honed finish hides etching better, and dolomitic marbles are generally more resistant. The choice is discussed with the client before selection.
